I modified my alarm clock to open my bedroom shades whenever the alarm goes off (with buzzer or silently). Since the shades are now motorized they also open/close with a push of a button! www-personal.umich.edu

I have custom blinds on all my windows and all but one is now lopsided. The dogs tore at the strings only on one side.

I would like to know if anyone knows how to repair them or restring them? I called several places and it would be cheaper for me to replace them…I don’t want to.

I have a design dilemma for you! My husband and I live in a rented townhouse that has a beautiful bay window in the living room. When we moved in, there were cheap white vertical blinds over it, which we have since removed and replaced with tab-top panel curtains. Here’s my dilemma: I’d like to hang sheers over the windows for privacy without blocking all the natural light. But the frames around the windows are aluminum, so we can’t drill into them and magnetic curtain rods won’t work. Also, the ceiling above the window is a nice wood panel (see pics below) that we also can’t drill into — remember, we’re just renting, so whatever we do now has to be un-done whenever we move. Each window (there are 5) is about 15" wide and 60" high, and it faces south. I’ve linked to photos below. Any suggestions are appreciated!
