Buying a new house. Will need to do blinds throughout the house, like a 2" horizontal. Seems simple enough to hang, and I’ve watched people walk-in at the local Big Box hardware store and have them cut on the spot. However, I am perusing the Big Box store’s web pages and it seems I am lost!!!!

Before comitting 100% to doing-it-myself, I want to experiment on one window. The window opening is 42.5" x 42.5". The blinds will be hung inside the opening. What size stock blind am I looking for if they are going to cut it? Will your recommended size have excess length? What do you do about removing it if it is extreme?

One last questions… If we want to do a crown valance on some, but not all… where do you get these?

You want a 45" wide by I think it comes 45" long. They’re going to cut it to 42" (1/4" shorter on either side) and then when you get home and get it hung, which is really easy, you will take the bottom off and then take out as many sats as you need to shorten it up. Instructions are in the box.

Hope that helps.

I love the look of wooden blinds and shades, and they would look great in our living room. Thing is, the windows (a bank of 3 standard size) face the street, and it looks really bad to have an expanse of brown in the windows. The other windows that face the street have white blinds. I was wondering if I could somehow line the wooded Roman shade with white fabric so the brown wouldn’t show. I’ve looked, and can’t find any made this way. Here are the ones I’m interested in: http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductsHOM.aspx?DeptID=25437&CatID=28538&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=SIZ&ItemID=11518ed&ProdSeq=10&Cat=roman&Dep=Window&PCat=Shades&PCatID=28537&RefPage=ProductList&Sale=&ProdCount=26&RecPtr=&ShowMenu=&TTYP=&ShopBy=0&RefPageName=CategoryAll.aspx&RefCatID=28537&RefDeptID=25437&Page=2&CmCatId=25437|28537|28538
I don’t quite know how I would go about this, so if anyone has any ideas, I’d appreciate hearing them. Thanks!
Thanks for the responses so far! To clarify, I don’t have these shades as of yet. I’m not as interested in uniformity of the windows as I am in it just not looking good. When we moved in, we put up a cheap matchstick blind in the windows as a temp. measure; looked good inside, but the brown looked bad outside (our house is grey/green). I def. don’t want white in the inside, I like the natural wood look. White mini blinds are OK, but I’d prefer something more exotic, if possible. I realize also that these blinds are see-thru, another reason I’d like to line them. Thanks to all!

I can appreciate a person trying to give uniformity to the look of their house, but consider this, If your living room is in the center of your house, and there are the same amount of windows on either side then it would be fine, trust me. The windows on the side will frame the livingroom windows and draw more attention to the livingroom making that the "focal point". However, if you are still determined to alter your existing shades from the link you posted, which are nice, you could consider a spray painting them white. You can use spray glue found anywhere (Walmart $3) and glue white fabric onto the back, but make sure you do a good job otherwise you’ve junked them up. Since I am giving you my opinion based of a senario, you are also welcomed to email me a picture and I will be happy to give you a more professional opinion. Good luck
